I look forward to seeing you out there. It was neat getting a good look at you Dautsun. I had no clue they were doing fuel injection so early. Good stuff.

A 280z was my first car when I was 16 now 29 and still loveit but I get intimidated by carbureted cars since i know nothing about them. lol So its a perfect match.

Lord.........another Datsun owner......there goes the neighborhood..........these people are everywhere Karim.

Fuel injection works well enough but they just don't look the biz,  nothing like meaty carbs and velocity stacks.  Carbs are easy once set up (fuel injection needs set up on a modded motor as well)  All I need is a screwdriver, 6mm allen wrench, needle nose pliers and a 6mm jet wrench............seems a lot more simple than a lap top. Besides the intake roar of 39mm Flat Slide carbs is way cool.

Well anyway welcome aboard and at least you're not driving the one of those French made Nissan cars.................look at a Cube and Versa and dare to tell me they are not French

                      Tom

  pssssst............since you wouldn't know, I've run a Datsun 1200 for the past 20 years.

haha, Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm Hoping to learn a lot from you guys. Agreed, A really nice carb'd set up is badass not to mention the sound. Now you got me thinking Tom. Maybe one day I'll give it a shot. For now, After this weekend, I feel like I've got some nice power and response, just got to work on the control part  Grin

A Datsun 1200 Would be nice to build. I've always wanted to build a roadster but I have to finish one project before another and I've never come across a clean enough shell. That might actually be my next build when Im done with the Z.

1960's mechanical FI.  ok...  maybe not Datsun... but my friend had a Ford Falcon back in the day...

Fuel injection works well enough but they just don't look the biz,  nothing like meaty carbs and velocity stacks.

you have to excuse Tom... he recently just realized that motocross bikes do _not_ have to have two shocks in the rear.  Grin

FI is actually much easier than carbs.

of course, you know i know carbs too.  had triple sidedraft Mikuni 44's on the 240Z.

  anyway, nice car Jeff.

I was referring to to Datsun Z's specifically.

Last I checked: fuel injection was started in the '20s on early Diesels. EFI was first tried in a production Alfa Romeo in 1940. Chevy first mass produced mechanical fuel injection in it's 283 ci V8's in '57.  Wink

LOL, Thanks Dave. I always know there are some carb guys here that will disagree with the EFI thing.

And Yes, Jeff nice ride man. (<--Former 350Z owner)

You'll have to forgive Dave as the only reading he ever does is Honda brochures, so back in 1976 he failed to see the word "Monocross" on Yamaha's which had a single shock, 7 years before Honda.  Smiley

Naturally it's my fault as last 5 years ago I bought a car made after 1982, then last summer I bough an 01 YZ125 to go with my 1976 YZ125C, then 3 months ago I bought a KTM 300 EXC so poor Dave is not sure what the world is coming to.

As for Fuel Injection, Datsun 1200's racing FIA Japanese Touring Car used Hitachi Mechanical Injection.........as for Electronic Fuel Injection the first really mainstream system was Bosch D jetronic. It used a series of Relays and PCB style TPS sensor............Dave will remember my 71 Volvo 142E, along with 914 and some SAAB models, came equipped with the system.

Dave I checked out the TWM system a while back and one other but it was going to be pricey relative to the Pokey, still needs initial set up like carbs but a very nice system. The tough part of fuel injection is not all systems end up making more power then a set of Flatslide carbs. Modern fuel injection is waaaay better than carbs but in some cases there is not a EFI set up that improves on a developed carb engine readily available......plus EFI won't be vintage race legal.

Jeff, Datsun learned there rust proofing from the Italians...........finding a rust free Datsun is like looking for a Tiger that doesn't eat meet. I am curious how much money you got soaked for insurance as a 16 yr old with a Z car......ouch

Haha luckily I was insured under my old Mistubishi mighty max and listed as a driver on the Z to keep insurance down. The one I had before was cherry. no rips or cracked dash, body was perfect. 60k original miles in 96'. Back then I thought I was getting an old hand me down from an uncle only to find out after I beat that car to the ground and sold it Sad, I loved it. Live and learn.

Dave if you'd bought a Yamaha it'd have the power to skim over the bumps,  I recently did a one hour GP at Primm..................on the vintage bike.

Jeff, it's not uncommon to see what at the time is an "old" car beat on, who knew they would end up having value. There is an infamous story of a French kid using this old painting as a dart board in his family's basment...........turned out to be a Van Gogh (they were able to retore it). When I first drove the 1200 it was just an old Japanese car, I still have a tough time thinking of it as classic or vintage.

I worked with a guy at Saturn who, over the years, had owned a '67 Stingray, a ('70 or '72?  can't remember - the Smokey & the Bandit car) TANS Am with the factory 400, an '87 GNX, and a couple of others.  He calculated that if he'd kept all the cars he'd had since age 16 and sold them at auction in 2005, he could have retired quite comfortably, lol!
