true... but both my tires and shocks are bad... and I reeeeeeeally want to do the tires...

I might be stupid, but at least I'm slow!
If I missed somthing in the conversation, disgregard....Otherwise:

There is 'Need', and there is 'Want'.
Does "Bad" mean 'Low performance'?
Or does "Bad" mean 'BROKEN & in need of replacement"?
Much gets lost via 'Forums' and such, but...

Carl, if you NEED shocks, GET THEM!!!!  Tires can wait.
Fix what's broke first.  Tires are a symptom, NOT a cause when it come to irregular wear.
If you are having tire wear issues, shocks could very well be the root cause.
If you NEED shocks, replace them before, or with tires!
othrwise I fear you will throw away good money ater bad...

true, and I do worry about that... but we shall see... if it happenes, then it happens... I can deal with things if I've made the wrong choice.

either way I think without autocross that both are bad at the level of "Want"... the tire wear is subtle and probably happened over time. The shocks are more just a really old part that it's time to replace...

It's pretty easy to say that if it was any other car, and I wasnt involved in this stuff right now that I would probably put both off for as much as another year or so, but because I am more in tune with this car that I have been for a while and I have the opportunity to push it to its limits I get more opportunity to feel the potential non-critical issues they stand out to me.

I did consider that if I wait until next fall on shocks that it means at least 4 more months and 5 more races at a minimum so I might suffer my way through replacing my shocks early just because I am pretty much as enthusiastic about getting those done as I am about the tires... just the tires were somehow what I latched onto first.
