Hello LVR Members,

The Region’s Solo program has been busy with the 2010 Summer Night Series. The series is being held at the Silverton Casino and Lodge. The first event was held June 12. The event saw 69 participants. From there, the Summer Series has grown to become a popular event to attend. July 10 event, entries went up to 84. Followed by the July 31 event, that saw 98 entries. And at every event, the Region has seen an increase of new drivers (weekend members) Become A Year Round Member Today. Weekend members have filled almost half the field, the past two events. The “New Driver Team” is taking the time to work with the new drivers before and during the event. So, if you know anyone who wants to try autocrossing, we have folks at each event willing and wanting to work with them. The Region is also recognizing the winners of each event in each class, by presenting them dash plaques. It’s the Region’s way of saying, “Thank You.”

Our next event will be August 28 at the Silverton Casino. 4:30pm to 11:00pm (Pre-Register). This will be the last event for the Summer Series.

The Region has started up a committee for “Road Rally” events. Diana Vereschzagin has volunteered and been appointed the committee chair. Diana is looking for a few folks to help plan and organize future rally events. If you have not already contacted Diana, and would like to lend a hand, please email me at re@lvrscca.org or sign up on our Forum Page under the “Rally Cross” topic. What is a Road Rally? Unlike what is written by SCCA, the first few events will be fun, innovative and novelty rallies. They will not be timed as mentioned in the Road Rally link. They will follow a format something similar to this Fun Adult Scavenger Hunt Road Rally.

The Region is also looking for a Nomination Committee. The committee’s purpose is to control the nominations and elections of officers. Please email me at re@lvrscca.org if you are wanting to help out.

LVRSCCA proudly scheduled four events this summer at the Silverton Casino/Hotel. Our “Summer Series” began on June 12. Participants were treated to a challenging course set up by Dave Hironaka. For a small location, the design kept average times in the low 50 second range. A big concern that many participants had was, “how will the lighting be?” Excellent lighting is what we found.
Competition was exciting throughout the night. Tom Skaggs was knocking on the heels of Andy Goldberg in “A” stock. One tenth of a second separated them, with Goldberg on top at the end. And there is only one point between them for the year end championship.
In “B” stock, Sue Stoddard was having cone issues, but pulled off her best lap during her final run. Only to have Mike Skougard better his own time on his last run to take the lead and win.
“CSP” continues to be an exciting class to follow. Rick Rowland took the lead with his last run as well. The separation from first to third was six tenths of a second.
“Street Mod” saw some great competition between Thomas Smith and Brandon Chappell (Subi vs. Evo). Thomas’ second run was his fastest to beat out Chappell by .167.
If you would like to see this competition in person or be part of it, please join us this Saturday night (July 10) at the Silverton Casino. Registration opens at 5 pm, first car out at 7 pm. Prices are $30 for members, $45 for non-members. Registration at the event is always welcomed.
The remaining night series will be July 31 and August 28. Awards will be given to first place class winners!

Hello LVR Members,

The North/South Challenge has been canceled for 2010. The Mineral County Airport manager advised Reno’s RE that the Federal Aviation Agency had issued new rules for the operation of airports throughout the United States. The airport manager sought clarification of the complex rules through a consultant based in Denver and was advised that because the regulations were new and had not been tested, that a strict interpretation would be the prudent path to follow. Accordingly, the airport manager has advised SCCA that the airport property will not be made available for the 2010 North South event.

Solo Summer Night Series will be held at the Silverton Casino and Lodge. The dates are June 12, July 10, July 30, and August 28. There has also been a change in the entry fee for these events. The cost has been lowered. Member cost will be $30, weekend member cost will be $45.

I want to thank all of you, the members. I am happy to announce that we, Las Vegas Region, have reached the status of “Medium Region”. This means we have over 201 members. I am also happy to announce that the Region has added over 30 new members to its family this year so far.
